Alton Chung: Hawaiian & Asian Tales

Alton Chung

Storyteller Alton Chung combines a rich cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from his Japanese and Korean roots, as well as being influenced by the superstitions, stories, and magic of the Hawaiian Islands where he grew up. Alton is a member of Portland Story Theater and the Portland Storytelling Guild. He collects oral histories of Japanese elders for the Portland Nikkei Legacy Center, is an apprentice to Eth-Noh-Tec, and is the recipient of the 2005 J.J. Reneaux Emerging Artist Award from the National Storytelling Network.

Joe Kurmaskie: Travel Adventure Stories

Joe Kurmaskie is an award winning journalist and author of the popular Random House travel adventure series Metal Cowboy (3 books and counting). His one man performance has graced more than 200 stages around the country. Joe's work has appeared in Men's Journal, The New York Times, Details, The Oregonian, Bicycling and Backpacker. He lives in Portland with his wife and two boys.

Esther Stutzman: Native American Tales

Esther Stutzman

Esther Stutzman is a native Oregonian and traditional American Indian storyteller of Kalapuya/Coos heritage. She learned the stories from her grandmothers and she has been telling stories of the ancient ways for over forty years. She has been a long-time presenter for the Oregon Chautauqua History Series and a recipient of Oregon Historical Society Folklife awards. She also teaches workshops and American Indian music seminars for many regional and National music teachers' associations and is a frequent lecturer at universities and colleges in the Pacific Northwest.

Rebecca Cohen: Oregon Folk Experiences

Rebecca Cohen

Rebecca is the daughter of storytelling farmers who always had a story to share around the dinner table. Storytelling has been a big part of her life. She first began telling stories in the oral tradition (without a book) to her own sons then started telling them to other children. She is a co-founder of the Stories by the Sea Storytelling Festival in Newport, Oregon an event that is scheduled for its 11th season in September 2005.

Rick Huddle: Humorous & Inspiring Stories

Hailing from a long line of teachers and Southern preachers (and a very short line of one clown), Rick Huddle has storytelling in his blood. With exuberance, and sometimes a guitar sing-a-long, Rick tells humorous and inspiring stories about princesses who slay dragons, monsters that play kickball, and cows that dance.

Anne-Louise Sterry

Anne-Louise Sterry

Anne-Louise Sterry is an extraordinary performer whose joy in storytelling and singing is contagious. Unfailingly positive and encouraging, she brings an energy and commitment to her audiences, whatever their age, which makes those present feel that she is working or performing with them rather than at them.

Anne-Louise is based in Portland, Oregon, performs nationally and internationally, is a Regional Arts Council, and Young Audiences Performer and is soon to be working with Operation Respect ("Don't Laugh at Me" Program). She has released four CD recordings of stories and songs, the latest of which "Making Ravioli" won the Children's Music Web Award for Best Spoken Word Recording for Older Children.
