Information about the variety of Android devices

There are many tablets and smartphones running the Android operating system. While Library2Go is compatible with current major Android devices, there are many varieties of tablets on the market, many running older versions of Android.

To be able use your Android device with Library2Go, it has to be running a certain version of the Android software. Here is how to find out if your Android device is compatible with Library2Go.

The screenshots in this guide were taken using a Nexus 7. You may find that the app looks slightly different depending on your Android device. For example, the "menu" button varies between Android devices. The menu button is the way to see many of the options within the app. Be sure to locate the menu button on your device so you can navigate between your Bookshelf and Get Books, and so you can find the settings of your app.

This is what the menu button on the Kindle Fire looks like:

Install the app & authorize with an Adobe ID

Create an Adobe ID by visiting this website. You may want to write down the email address and password you used, as it's very important that you remember it later when authorizing your device.

Install the OverDrive Media Console app from Google Play. If you have a Kindle Fire, get it from the Amazon appstore, or if you have a Nook Tablet, get the app here.

If your device does not have an app store, visit this link to download the app directly from OverDrive.

When you first open the app you need to authorize it with your Adobe ID, otherwise you won't be able to download ebooks. Tap on the Settings icon (or on your menu icon then on Settings) to do this.

Enter the email address you used for your Adobe ID and password, then tap on Authorize. This is a good time to review your settings for the app.

Add your library information

To search for books and to get to your bookshelf, tap on the menu button on your device (remember, it may be in a different spot and look different as well), then on Get Books.

The first time you use the app, you need to select your library. After this time, you won't need to set this up again.

Tap on Add a Library.

Search for your local WCCLS member library by city or zip code.

Choose any WCCLS member library from the list.

Tap the star next to Oregon Digital Library Consortium. This will remember the library so you don't have to go through these steps next time you use the app. Then, tap on Oregon Digital Library Consortium to search for books and access your Library2Go account.

Download your title

This guide assumes you have already added a title to your bookshelf (checked a title out). Learn how to do that here.

To get to your Library2Go account, tap on Get Books.

Tap on the account icon to log in. Choose Washington County Cooperative Library Services from the drop-down list, then enter your WCCLS card number, starting with 23614.

Make sure you are viewing your bookshelf in your account by tapping on the books icon. You'll see the title(s) you have checked out. To download the title to the app on your Android device, tap on Download. From there you will choose the format you need.

To use the book in the app on your Android device, you need to choose the EPUB format for ebooks, or MP3 format for audiobooks. Then tap on Confirm & Download.

Your title will download. This takes just a few minutes for an ebook, but for an audiobook it can take 15 or 20 minutes, depending on the speed of your connection.

To get back to the Bookshelf in the app to read your book, tap on the menu button, then on Bookshelf.

When the book is finished downloading it will appear on your bookshelf in the OverDrive app. To read or listen to the book, tap on the title.

Learn how to return titles early. If you don't return them early, they will simply expire off your device and account.
