• MP3
• WMA

Audiobook formats compatible with downloading to Macintosh computers, and transferring to Apple devices or other MP3 players:
• MP3 only
• WMA files are not compatible with Macs

If you have an MP3 player that is not an Apple device, follow the steps below. The only difference is that when you launch the Transfer Wizard, Windows Media Player will launch to transfer the audiobook to your MP3 player, not iTunes.

Technical requirements & installing software

Visit this page and click on Windows or Mac to find the technical requirements.

Transferring WMA audiobooks to an MP3 player or Apple device can only be done from a PC. Only MP3 audiobooks can be transferred from a Mac.

Download the following software, or if it is already installed, make sure it is up to date:

Download your title

This guide assumes you have already added a title to your bookshelf (checked a title out). Learn how to do that here.

Log in to your Library2Go account by clicking on the account icon. Choose Washington County Cooperative Services from the drop-down menu, and enter your WCCLS card number, starting with 23614.

Click on the Download button next to the title you want to download to your computer.

Choose the format you'd like to download and then click on Confirm & Download.

You will see a dialog box asking if you want to Open or Save the file. Choose Open, and make sure that OverDrive Media Console is listed as the program the file will open with. Click OK.

You are asked where the file should be saved. Unless you are an expert, simply just accept the default location by clicking OK.

If you want to download the whole audiobook, make sure all the tracks are selected and click OK. Downloading the audiobook can take up to 20 minutes, depending on how long the book is and how fast your internet connection is.

To play the audiobook on your computer, click on the title in OverDrive Media Console to highlight it, then click on the Play button.

Transfer an audiobook to your Apple device or other MP3 player

To transfer the audiobook to your Apple device or other MP3 player, highlight the title in OverDrive Media Console and click the Transfer button.

If you haven't already plugged in your device, you are prompted to do so, and then click Next.

If you are transferring an MP3 title, you can go ahead and transfer all parts at one. If you are transferring a WMA title, particularly if you are transferring it to an Apple device, it is best to only transfer one part at a time.

This is because the WMA file type is not natively supported by Apple devices. To minimize the risk of the transfer not completing, it is best to transfer one part at a time.

You may then see a screen asking you to review your import settings in iTunes. Click here to learn how to adjust your settings in iTunes to make the transfer process as painless as possible.

Wait while your title is transferred and/or converted in iTunes. This can often take longer than the timer tells you, so be patient.

The transfer process will create a playlist in iTunes with the title of your audiobook. Go into the playlist and re-order the parts if they are not in the correct order.

You will find the audiobook under Playlists on your iOS device.
