What is a Library2Go audiobook or video title?

A Library2Go video or audiobook title is a digitally-protected audiobook (or video) from OverDrive that has been optimized for download. These titles are built using the Microsoft® Windows Media format.

Try it in 4 easy steps:

  1. On your home, school, or work PC, download, install and register the Overdrive Media Console software (available on the Library2Go website).
  2. Select videos or audiobooks to download.
  3. Check your audiobooks or videos out with your library card.
  4. Download and enjoy!

Note: Installing the Overdrive Media Console software may require an upgrade of Windows Media Player. Older MP3 players may have compatibility problems. Check the Overdrive site for your model's compatibility. Use at your own risk.

What is the OverDrive Media Console?

The OverDrive Media Console (available for free on the Library2Go page accessed through the WCCLS website) allows you to download and enjoy OverDrive video and audiobook titles in high-quality Windows Media Audio format on any Windows computer running Windows (98 Second Edition, Millennium Edition, Windows 2000, Windows XP).

OverDrive Media Console also permits you to create and burn CDs of your audiobooks (or videos) (when allowed by the publisher) for use in your car, home stereo, or portable CD player. With the OverDrive Media Console you can also transfer your videos and audiobooks to supported portable devices.

What other software do I need to use the Library2Go service?
  • Windows Media Player (9 Series or newer)
  • Access to the Internet
  • To use OverDrive videos or audiobooks on an MP3 player or other device, it must either support a 32kbps bit rate or be able to transcode 32kbps files to a supported bit rate.
  • iPod products are not compatible with this system.

What are the borrowing policies for Library2Go downloadable audiobooks and videos?
  • You can check out four audiobooks and/or videos at a time.
  • The loan period is fourteen days. They expire from your PC after fourteen days.
  • You may place up to ten holds on downloadable videos or audiobooks that are currently checked out. You will be notified by email when a copy is returned and you have two days to check it out.
  • A book can be checked out again if there are no holds on the title.

Can I use Library2Go videos or audiobooks with my Mac or iPod?

From the Library2Go website: "OverDrive Audio Book titles, provided by OverDrive, Inc., use DRM protection technology from Microsoft Corporation. Unfortunately the iPod and Mac do not currently support DRM-protected Windows Media Audio (WMA) files."
