Every Child Ready to Read @ Cedar Mill Community Library
Early Literacy Classes - for Parents
These Early Literacy workshops for parents of children 0-5 years will focus on introducing parents to the six early literacy skills that research points to as essential for children to master before they learn to read. Early Literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they learn to read and write.
Libraries have always played a role in early literacy development of small children by offering suitable materials and storytimes. With these workshops, Cedar Mill Community Library will be taking a more active role in educating parents about the importance of early literacy.
The workshops will include current information on brain research, the six early literacy skills, tips for sharing and choosing books for little ones, games and information packets. Workshops will be for parents of specific age groups of children.

Certified training videos for child care providers are available through your local Washington County library. Participants may qualify to receive one training hour that fulfills Child Care Division (CCD) training requirements upon the completion of viewing each video, the corresponding reflection sheet* and related activity. If you need help finding the videos in your library, or placing a hold request, please ask the children’s librarian to assist you.
In order to fulfill the credit requirements, participants must complete and return a "Reflection Sheet" for each video they review. It is important to remember to ask for the Reflection Sheets when you check each video out at your local library. Once you have watched a video and completed the reflection sheet and the activity, you need to send the Reflection Sheet and activity report to the address listed on the sheet.
