Washington County Cooperative Library Services presents Music Play: Growing Readers One Song at a Time

Washington County, Oregon: Play is one of the key building blocks to a child's development. Many early childhood educators hold that play is in fact the primary business of young children. In order to highlight its important role in the pre-reading development of children, the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) has invited a pair of children’s musicians to provide a fun-filled series of interactive concerts designed to get kids up and playing!

Throughout the week of November 4th – 10th, award-winning musician and author Jim Gill (wwwjimgill.com) will help celebrate the joys of music, reading and playing by presenting a handful of concerts around Washington County. One of our nation’s premier entertainers of young children, Gill belongs in a music play tradition firmly established by pioneers such as Pete Seeger and Raffi. His concerts are delightful for young and old alike. While banging out energetic rhythms on his banjo, Gill encourages everyone to clap, jump, dance and even sneeze in time to his tunes. His unique approach to music is built upon a belief that family play is more important to young children than music alone.

Wrapping up the week’s entertainment, Eugene’s own bilingual troubadour and music educator Rich Glauber will present a concert Friday evening at Centro Cultural in Cornelius. Rich’s songs playfully blend English and Spanish, and are a perfect complement to the week’s festivities. They are sure to get kids smiling, clapping hands and skipping to the beat.

Schedule of Music Play Events:

Jim Gill’s Family Room Tour:
