Hearing Voices Overview
The Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) hosts the 8th Annual Hearing Voices Storytelling Festival April 7 – 14, 2012. The festival features four professional storytellers: Tim Tingle (Canyon Lake, TX), Kirk Waller (Oakland, CA), Habiba Addo (Portland, OR and Ghana, West Africa) and Leslie Slape (Rainier, OR).
The week-long storytelling extravaganza features thirteen storytelling performances at the WCCLS member libraries, the Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro and the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains.
The festival kicks off April 7 at the Tigard Library with a double-header performance by Habiba Addo and Leslie Slape. The week wraps up Saturday, April 14 with a full slate of activities—Kirk Waller will begin the morning with a performance at the Sherwood Public Library. Tim Tingle’s afternoon presentation of Fiery, Funny Tips for Telling Your Story Workshop at the Tualatin Public Library, will be followed by a community-wide Story Swap hosted by the Portland Storytellers’ Guild. On the evening of Saturday, April 14, the Banks and North Plains Public Libraries will cohost the final storytelling concert at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club featuring performances by all four storytellers. The festival performances are designed for the enjoyment of adults and children ages 6 and up, unless otherwise noted.
The WCCLS festival is supported in part by grants from the Regional Arts and Culture Council and each of the local Friends of the Library organizations representing WCCLS member libraries, with additional in-kind services provided by Pamplin MediaGroup, Courtyard by Marriott, ProGraphics Services, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center, Recology, and the Portland Storytellers’ Guild.
