Adult Summer Reading: How it Works
Sign up at the reference desk at either Main or Shute Park Library. Registration is available between June 1–July 31. Receive a small gift when you register and pick up your book review forms, which you will fill out to be eligible for weekly and grand prize drawings.
Attend a program in the Be Creative series (details below) to also be eligible for summer reading prize drawings!
Although registration needs to be done in person, you can email your book reviews to Hillary Garrett, Reference Librarian, at hillaryg@ci.hillsboro.or.us.
In the email, please include your name, phone number, and a brief review of your book(s). Also indicate if we can use your book review(s) as part of a public display.

Poetry writing workshop
Poetry writing class with local, award-winning poet Marie Buckley.Poetry really is for everyone! The best poems are those that touch our hearts, our personal experiences and our senses. Poetry can tell a story, express unspoken feelings, and make us laugh or make us cry. Sometimes poems do all of the aforementioned. Come and explore creativity through poetry! We'll look at a few short examples of interesting poems. Then we'll try writing some poetry using entertaining prompts and models. You'll get ideas to keep practicing and may be happily surprised to find the creative poet within yourself. Bring paper, pen or pencil, and your enthusiasm.

Be Creative Jewelry making class
Class is for teens (13+) and adults; Limited to 15 people. Introduction to basic wireworking with Amy Olson, of Amy Olson Jewelry. Visit her web site to see her creations, amyolsonjewelry.etsy.com. Class will focus on making simple loops, wrapped loops, wrapped pendants, simple earwires, and a basic clasp. Students will learn the functions of three different types of pliers, when they are used, and the proper way of holding them. This will be a great starter course for anyone who is interested in making wire-wrapped jewelry!Class is for teens (13+) and adults. Limited to 15 people.

Cake decorating techniques
Class is limited to 12 people.Learn cake decorating techniques from Venis Taherizadegan, Chef at Alchemy on Main in downtown Hillsboro. In this class, people will learn:
*2-3 simple decorating techniques they could do at home.
*how to fill & crumb coat a cake.
*how to ice a cake.
*how to do a basic border.
*how to color, roll & cut fondant shapes.
At the end, everyone will be invited to share the cake! Coffee and tea will also be served.

Afternoon Tea with Jane Austen: Emma
We'll be doing a proper British Tea while we watch the movie Emma. We will also offer some Regency era activities like Regency card games such as Whist, and beading pearl necklaces, bracelets, and bookmarks.
