WCCLS Work Spans the World

Hi Karen,

John Harris here, son of Tiger and Peggy. We're in the Foreign Service, posted overseas with US Agency for International Development, we're currently in Kyiv, Ukraine.

We're currently locked down under quarantine restrictions, without access to English language publications, and now without access to mail service.

I just wanted to let you know how truly exceptionally amazing the Washington County library system is for online access to books and audiobooks. We use the system all the time. It's been a lifesaver during quarantine.

In fact, my wife is also a member of the Boston area public library system. Invariably, the Washington County system is far superior to the Boston city system.

The system is so good it serves as a reminder for why we come together as a community to make available public services. In this moment of everyone seeming to go it alone, the Washington County library system is a reminder of the power of what we can accomplish when we all come together.

Thank you for all you do; this system dramatically improves the lives of Oregonians currently marooned in Ukraine.

Best regards, John Harris
