Patrons will find a wide variety of viewpoints reflected in WCCLS collections. At times, some community members may have a concern about the inclusion or the absence of a particular title in those collections. Community members may reach out to WCCLS at any time with questions, comments, or suggestions. Formal requests to remove, relocate, or recategorize a WCCLS item or resource shall be considered within the context of the WCCLS Collection Development Policy. Comments and formal requests regarding a member library’s collection should be submitted directly to that library, not WCCLS.

Initial inquiries will be addressed by the staff who work with the collection at issue and their supervisor. If an acceptable outcome cannot be reached, the community member’s concerns will be escalated to the Cooperative Library Services Manager, who is appointed by Washington County Administration. At the discretion of the Cooperative Library Services Manager, a Selection Review Committee will consider the request for reconsideration. The committee, designated by the Cooperative Library Services Manager, will include at least one WCCLS supervisor and at least one director of a WCCLS member library. The Review Committee will determine if the material meets the criteria of this policy, and the Cooperative Library Services Manager will inform the community member of the decision in writing.
