In celebration of its 50th birthday, Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) invites the public to attend festivities across Washington County throughout the summer.
WCCLS and local libraries are co-hosting a series of 16 birthday parties. Guests can enjoy free fun, cupcakes, stickers, community, and more. Mugs will be given as party favors to the first 50 guests (limit 2 per household). Events are free for all ages and open to the public. The first birthday party is scheduled for June 6, and the last one is scheduled for August 22, 2026.
Limited edition library cards are available in two designs at all 16 WCCLS libraries starting June 1.
Patrons are invited to pick up a WCCLS passport and collect stamps from 16 libraries, each one as unique as the community it serves. Community members who collect all 16 stamps are eligible to take home a commemorative puzzle while supplies last.
"For 50 years, WCCLS has shown what's possible when libraries, local government, and community partners work together to serve the public. Across the county, our 16 libraries continue to connect people with information, technology, and welcoming spaces to gather and learn,” says Courtney Gill, Community Relations Manager. “These birthday celebrations are a chance to celebrate that shared commitment, thank the community members who have supported libraries over the years, and look ahead to the next 50 years together."
Details on the festivities, including a calendar of events, can be found at wccls.org/50.
About WCCLS
WCCLS partners with local public libraries to connect people to life-changing library services to create a curious, engaged, and literate community where everyone is welcome and thrives.
The cooperative was founded in 1976 after voters passed the first countywide tax measure to fund library services. Today, WCCLS partners with 9 cities and 3 non-profits to offer library services to more than 600,000 residents in Washington County. WCCLS provides central services and annually allocates more than $28 million in operational funding to 16 member libraries located throughout the county from Banks to Sherwood. WCCLS courier trucks deliver over 2.5 million items to libraries each year.
