Local Teens Invited to “Find Their Voice” Through Art and Reading this Summer

We are proud to unveil the winning artwork from the 2023 WCCLS Teen Art Contest, part of the annual Summer Reading program!

First place was awarded to Kaitlin M., an 8^th grader and patron of Bethany Library, who describes the piece as, “a Bewick’s wren amongst robins atop a fence, showing its voice and its confidence despite its size."

Patrons between ages 12 and 18 were invited to submit up to two original pieces that represent the theme for this year's Summer Reading program, “Find your voice.” 

The grand prize was a $200 Amazon gift card and a chance to be featured on the WCCLS website and social media, as well as across the county in other Summer Reading promotions. The winning art also appears on a limited edition bookmark available at all libraries this summer.

Third place: Jasper G., 9^th grader, patron of Cedar Mill Library 

Honorable mention: Sara T., 11^th grader, patron of Beaverton City Library

Summer Fun at the Library

All youth, up to age 18, are encouraged to sign up for Summer Reading at their local library. Everyone who registers can earn a free book! Families and patrons of all ages are also invited to participate in our WCCLS Passport program this summer. Visit as many libraries as you can, discover what's unique about each one, and enter to win a prize!
